If you've been in an accident, this is what to do first:

• Check for injuries — safety first. Call 999 if anyone is hurt or the road is blocked.

 

• Move to safety — If you can, get yourself and your bike out of the road to minimise the risk of further collisions. Be smart - don't move the bike if you are not 100% certain you can do so without causing injury.

 

• Exchange details — Get names, addresses, insurance details, and registration numbers from all parties involved. Make sure you have the details for any witnesses too, and of course any incident reference numbers from the police.

 

• Document everything — Take photos of the damage, the road, weather conditions, and any relevant road markings or signage - remember that you WILL FORGET! Accidents are stressful, and its easy to miss details you may need later - you can't take too much information!

 

• Don't admit fault — that's for the insurance companies to argue - many times we've seen non fault cases go the wrong way because people were just being polite!
